Health and Physical Education

With the prevalence of childhood obesity being of major concern in Australia, it is of vital importance that students are exposed to physical activity and health issues that are relevant to them from Kindergarten through to their adolescent years.

Here at St James Catholic College, we view Health and Physical Education as an essential component of the Curriculum.  We follow the Australian curriculum in Health and Physical Education. As part of this we are beginning to extend the Outdoor Education and Recreation components through primary and secondary classes. Our core FLAMES values are interwoven in many aspects of the curriculum.

Our students learn the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle during and following their formative education years and the skills required to participate in numerous activities. With units that develop fitness in all areas, support and encourage leadership and cooperation and the transfer of skills the students are given a range of opportunities for self-development.  Our new multipurpose hall will provide us with space and facilities for all levels of the school program.

Our health program not only follows Australian curriculum guidelines at all levels but also encompasses our Catholic mission through the Growing Towards Wholeness document.
