Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education

St James Catholic College takes great pride in our Aboriginal students and their families who are connected to and continue one of the oldest living cultures known in the world. We have approximately fifty percent of our student population identify as Aboriginal.

One of our aims as a College is to support our Aboriginal students to continue holding and creating that culture and for all of our students to learn about and treasure Aboriginal culture as part of our national heritage. We do this by exposing all our students to a diverse range of activities that can include visits to cultural awareness workshops and targeted learning activities.

We are also committed to Closing the Gap on academic outcomes for our Aboriginal students.  We do this by providing differentiation in the classroom, tutoring in and out of the classroom, extra support staff and individualised support.
