Student Support

Learning Support

Learning Support at St James Catholic College is an integral part of the College’s learning community. A highly skilled team of Learning Support Officers, under the guidance of the Head of SLN, works with students, teachers and parents to develop strategies to enable students to access the curriculum.

Learning Enhancement offers a wide range of opportunities including support in the classroom, individual and small group withdrawal, dedicated literacy classes, subject tutorials, extension of gifted students, English as Another Language (EAL) instruction and programmes developed to support each student’s individual learning plan.

Counselling Services

St James Catholic College offers counselling to students to help those who may be dealing with difficult issues and need someone objective with whom to discuss their concerns.

Counselling support may be required for stress, anxiety, emotional regulation, friendship concerns, grief or loss, resiliency, or other mental health concerns.

St James Catholic College offers a Brief Solution-Focused Therapy approach; however, if a student requires more specialised and/or on-going treatment, families will be contacted to discuss referral to an outside specialist.
